Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to participate in this survey. Your responses will help assess the needs of the scientific community in relation to mid-IR laser capabilities. In soliciting this information we are looking to get a good understanding of the needs of the community in order to drive the future direction of mid-IR (9-11 µm regime) high-power laser development for strong-field research needs.

The survey consists of several questions (approx. 15-minutes to complete) with the option to upload detailed comments at the end. Uploaded documents have a 3-page limit and should summarize your needs and the needs of your research group, or collaboration, in one or more of three main thrusts:

  1. Mid-IR (9-11 µm regime) Laser Research including laser technology development, high power beam studies, etc.

  2. The study of laser-plasma interactions and laser-structure interactions including wake characterization, ion acceleration, high energy density plasmas, and laser wakefield acceleration of charged particle beams.

  3. The study of techniques using combined laser and electron beam capability, including IFEL R&D, Compton scattering experiments, etc.

The responses collected will allow participants of the upcoming Scientific Needs Workshop (scheduled for May 31- June 1 at BNL). to confidently address the future of Mid-IR (9-11 µm regime) lasers, identify paths to upgrading parameters and improving accessibility, and provide recommendations for priorities going forward.

Please contact Christina Swinson (631-344-4021, cswinson@bnl.gov) if you have questions or need assistance with this survey.
